Applying for colleges sucks!

Well, the title of this post just about says it all. How much more complicated and stressful could the process of applying to colleges be? NOT MUCH!
I’m applying for a total of 9 colleges. So far I’ve applied to three and been accepted to 2! Unfortunately, both of them were just backup colleges, so although it’s nice to know I got in somewhere, I’m not exactly jumping for joy. I’m applying to the rest of the colleges using the Common App, so at least I don’t have to fill out tons of applications, except…. Except, for every college except one, I have to do a supplement! Which means writing more crap about why I want to go to so-and-so college. Plus, there’s the little issue of my essay, namely, the one that I am having an extreme amount of trouble getting myself so finish. RAAARGH I hate procrastination, and of course I’m saying this and I mean it, but I can’t seem to stop doing it! So we’ll see what happens. Hopefully I’ll be able to finish it and send in the stupid application soon, because did I mention that my school’s counselor already sent the colleges my transcripts?! So all the more, I need to finish it and submit the Common App before the colleges throw my transcript out or lose it something, as everyone keeps telling me! AAAAH! Thank goodness at least I’m on break now, so I only have to deal with this and not ten thousand other school things. Except for working on my graduation project. *pulls her hair out*

Book Banning =(

I’ve recently started an elective all about book banning. So far, we have been focusing on the banning of children’s books. It’s pretty interesting, and it’s brought up a lot of interesting topics around censorship. It’s also brought up the whole point of: Who has the right to censor things? In particular in children, is it their parent? Or should it be up to the child (after a certain age)? Some people, of course, for some reason have the impression that they need to protect everyone’s children, including their own.

Some of the children’s books that we’ve been looking at were old favorites of mine, and it just makes me mad that some children won’t have access to them. For example, Shel Silverstein’s “Where the Sidewalk Ends.” It’s just a book of fun, silly, rhyming poems with illustrations, but some people think it suggests “drugs, violence, suicide, the occult”, sets a bad example, BLAH BLAH BLAH. Some think the poem Dreadful, which joking talks about eating a baby, would encourage cannibalism in kids! Do they really think kids are that stupid? It’s RIDICULOUS! =(

The book we were focusing on today was Maurice Sendak’s “Where the Wild Things Are.” I love that book! It’s even been made into a movie! But it’s been banned because the monsters are so grotesque they could give children nightmares, and the fact that Max is sent to bed without dinner could give them psychological scars. Again, FREAKING RIDICULOUS!!

Hello again

Well. It certainly has been a REALLY long time since I’ve last written, as usual. I really am on the verge of getting rid of this and starting a new blog, but I probably wouldn’t write on that one at all either. Oh well.
